FLORIDA Homestead Exemption for “all” permanent residents?

February 7th, 2010 by Dirtguy | Filed under Beach Real Estate.
We are moving to Florida (the Palm Beach Area) from New York.

My husband and I were under the impression that we would qualify for Homestead if we had a permanent, year round, residence in Florida.

A friend told us that only original Floridians could qualify for the Homestead exemption.

Also, does this lower our real estate taxes if we qualify? We’re in the dark about it.

Any insight into this Homestead exemption would be appreciated.

To become a Florida resident you will need to get new drivers license.

You qualify for the Homestead exemption IF you lived in the property as of january 1st ….

You might not qualify THIS year; BUT you will next year ….

YES: Homestead exemptions comes off of your taxes , that is why it is called a Homestead Exemption ; you are exempt from paying so much tax ….
